House of Houndstooth

I’d like to tell you about a great new blog started by one of my friends, Anne. She’s a fashionista (seriously, her wedding dress was belted!) with an eye for menswear trends.
I invite my readers to check out her blog, House of Houndstooth. It’s funny and informative.. a new daily read for me, I’m sure!

Before And After

Sorry to trick you by the title.. Hopefully nobody thought that this post would be about some sort of make-over, make-under or general transformation of me or anyone else I know..

It’s more of a Wheel of Fortune reference, which I may regret when I hit “publish post”.. Oh well!
Tonight, I was listening to the Arctic Monkeys, which is where the chain of events started. Well, their frontman, Alex Turner dates Alexa Chung, which started me thinking of Alexa’s new collection for Madewell, which made me start thinking about polka dots..
Eventually I decided that I had to turn my computer back on and write this all down.
I know I’m not alone in thinking that Alexa is a really cool fashion icon and role model. Her collection , as expected, is mostly sold out. I couldn’t be happier for her success. I’ve noticed that polka dots are making a comeback, which I am verrrrrry pleased about. They are way more sophisticated now than during their stint with Minnie Mouse.. Hurray!
Rachel Comey knows what’s up.

Models Own

So ASOS, home of amazingly affordable house fashion mixed with some high end contemporary designers, launched a new section on their site called “Models Own”, which gives much more of a boutique feel to the site. All of the images were shot by Todd Selby, who is famous for shooting people in their own natural element.

Well, the photos are a dream and the spaces are all perfectly pulled together.. in their own way.

Sophia does this unkempt menswear thing very, very well. Maybe it’s because she’s got a Frenchmen, but she really is the epitome of cool. Here she is in L’Uomo Vogue, courtesy of Fashion Gone Rogue. I’m really loving the mix of masculine style in a beautiful silk fabric.
Oh, and just for good measure, I figure I’ll show you the trailer of her new film, Somewhere. This will undoubtedly be a new indie classic.

Drop It

Very very spur of the moment, I went to the Kele Okereke show tonight. Since he’s been on hiatus from Bloc Party, he’s made his own album, which is a bit more electronic than BP. I couldn’t help but notice how great his Humör pants were.

It started me thinking about how comfortable and useful drop-crotch pants can be. They seem like they’d be a lot better to perform in, as they have extra room to jump around and flail about.

(singing “Tenderoni”. You should listen to it)

They keep popping up on the runway for men and women alike, but I’ve yet to find a flattering pair for myself. My mission, as always, continues.

New Obsession: Eden & Eden

I feel a bit nostalgic when I look at the Eden and Eden website. Take these necklaces, for example. They SO remind me of those little adjustable bracelets that came in quarter machines at the grocery store when I was a kid. Although they are much more sophisticaed with their sterling silver ring, they still bring me back to the days of begging for twenty-five cents.
