How perfectly fun is this DVF dress for my night out to see WICKED! with the ladies of my family tomorrow?

It’s certainly a statement, but screams drama! I love the purple Lulu Guiness clutch for a bit of fun.

My Brief Synopsis: Tucker for Target

October 3, 2010 § Leave a comment

In true Mara form, I’m posting late on this..

Unfortunately, I live in an area that’s highly populated by people who are in the know, so Tucker was sold out in the first hour at my local Target. Luckily, they were nice enough to give us a second shipment, so I was able to see most of the collection the other night.
I ended up only buying two pieces, tops to be exact, but I am really happy with the quality. Even though they are a bit style-specific, I think the prints will be very versatile and perfect for my wardrobe. I wasn’t too impressed by the jodhpurs and skirts, as they weren’t well lined a appeared to be a bit itchy..hmm..
Pictures to come later..

Ready Yeti?

I’m more than willing to admit that I’ve been totally absent from the blogosphere as of late, but I promise that it was only a temporary hiatus. I’m back, bitches! (Sorry mum!)

OK, so topic of conversation.. missteps in fashion. We’ve all been there, right? Sometimes, trends are just, for lack of better words, wrong. Sometimes, whilst out for a little retail therapy, you might spot an odd piece and think “I could really incorporate that piece into my arsenal of things”… It could be a piece of jewelry, a scarf, or, in the case of my recent trip to Urban Outfitters, this coat..
The thing is.. sometimes things just don’t work. I actually shuddered when I saw this thing. Flashbacks of old episodes of Unsolved Mysteries ran through my head. Yetis DO exist!
I then remembered the scene in one of my favorite films, About A Boy when Toni Colette’s character shows up for a date wearing a jacket much like this one, and Hugh Grant’s cocky-as-ever character is having an aside with the viewers, saying “as for his mum, she appeared to be clinically insane, and wearing some kind of yeti costume”.

If Hugh Grant tells you not to do it, don’t do it. Enough said.

House of Houndstooth

I’d like to tell you about a great new blog started by one of my friends, Anne. She’s a fashionista (seriously, her wedding dress was belted!) with an eye for menswear trends.
I invite my readers to check out her blog, House of Houndstooth. It’s funny and informative.. a new daily read for me, I’m sure!

Before And After

Sorry to trick you by the title.. Hopefully nobody thought that this post would be about some sort of make-over, make-under or general transformation of me or anyone else I know..

It’s more of a Wheel of Fortune reference, which I may regret when I hit “publish post”.. Oh well!
Tonight, I was listening to the Arctic Monkeys, which is where the chain of events started. Well, their frontman, Alex Turner dates Alexa Chung, which started me thinking of Alexa’s new collection for Madewell, which made me start thinking about polka dots..
Eventually I decided that I had to turn my computer back on and write this all down.
I know I’m not alone in thinking that Alexa is a really cool fashion icon and role model. Her collection , as expected, is mostly sold out. I couldn’t be happier for her success. I’ve noticed that polka dots are making a comeback, which I am verrrrrry pleased about. They are way more sophisticated now than during their stint with Minnie Mouse.. Hurray!
Rachel Comey knows what’s up.

Models Own

So ASOS, home of amazingly affordable house fashion mixed with some high end contemporary designers, launched a new section on their site called “Models Own”, which gives much more of a boutique feel to the site. All of the images were shot by Todd Selby, who is famous for shooting people in their own natural element.

Well, the photos are a dream and the spaces are all perfectly pulled together.. in their own way.
Enjoy.
